The Cambodian Trager® Fund
The Cambodian Trager Project is the first of several global relief projects of the Art of Dhamma. It is focused on the introduction of The Trager® Approach to physical therapists and lay care givers within Cambodia, in order to aid in the treatment of mine victims suffering from acute psychophysical trauma and children with polio.
It is our belief that everyone can learn compassionate, healing touch. Our hope/goal is to impart the basic principles of this unique way of working to lay caregivers, (parents, spouses and perhaps children) so that they too can care for their loved ones in between visits to (often distant) rehabilitation facilities.
We also plan to provide a more comprehensive instruction package to local physical therapists that will support working within a holistic framework to expand/explore the repertoire of hands-on techniques, giving more options and increasing benfits with less strain on the therapists.
The Trager® Approach utilizes touch and movement as a way to dialogue with a patients nervous system. Through this tactile dialogue, deep seated muscle holding patterns that manifest as functional limitation or pain can be released.
Originally developed by Dr. Milton Trager for the treatment of polio and sciatica, this Approach has been successfully employed to treat other conditions such as chronic lower back pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, Parkinson's disease, Dystonia, scoliosis, physical and sexual abuse trauma, TMJ pain, and post-stroke paralysis. In addition, it has proven to be an excellent stress management tool.
Art of Dhamma thanks you in advance for your purchase, as it provides us with the much-needed funds to carry out our vision. Currently we are collaborating with instructors from the Trager® Institute to develop appropriate training protocols, and are contacting various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) already providing rehabilitation services in Cambodia, to coordinate our project with theirs.
